It is believed that when an event or experience is perceived as traumatic or stressful it becomes immutably encoded in the psyche and the body, often with life altering consequences.

Havening Techniques® are powerful tools that can be used to treat the consequences of encoded trauma or stressful memories. It is a method which is designed to change the brain to de-traumatise the memory and remove its negative effects from both our psyche and body.

If any of the following presenting issues are affecting your everyday life, I would love to work with you:

  • Post traumatic stress disorder, including complex ptsd

  • Adverse childhood experiences.

  • Depression

  • Traumatic incidents, memories

  • Abuse of any kind, including emotional

  • Anxiety. Panic attacks

  • Emotions such as displaced anger, shame, sadness, grief

  • Loss. Abandonment.

  • Stress

  • Addictions

  • Unhelpful behaviours

  • Secondary trauma

  • Phobias

  • Eating issues

  • Self harm

  • Pain without cause

Some of the Benefits of Havening:

  • Havening techniques have been developed by Dr Ron Ruden and are based on neuroscience

  • The havening touch, sometimes alongside distractions changes the brains neurochemistry, alters landscape and delinks encoded traumas from the amygdala, which can change and permanently remove presenting issues

  • Rather than treat the presenting issues, havening seeks to find causes. However, if the causes are not obvious to an individual, or an individual is not ready to work on these, a slightly different approach will be used, and in a way that is person centred to an individual, their own needs and also on a level which matches their current understanding of their own life

  • Havening doesn’t require endless talking and if working with specific memories, these can be worked on completely non disclosure, therefore not putting an individual in a place of re traumatisation

  • Havening techniques can not only be used for traumatic memories, the techniques can also be used for other components that may become encoded at the time of traumatisation such as emotional, cognitive, autonomic and somatosensory. Pre verbal trauma and felt sense can also be worked on.

  • Havening for some individuals is enough as a stand alone. For others havening works well as a bottom approach and then an individual may need to use another modality as a top up approach. An individual usually then finds top up work easier and more effective

  • Havening creates a safe haven, positive alterations throughout any session, down regulates and builds a more resilient landscape
